Associate Professor, Engineering Technology Professional interests include CAM and advanced machining, 3D modeling and high speed machining, Fluid Power, and advanced automation and manufacturing processes. Prior to his arrival at Western Carolina University, Dr. Ball worked in production engineering at Chicago Telephone Supply and Vermont American Corporation. He has been a faculty member at Western Carolina University since 1977, with the exception of a two year leave during which he earned his doctorate from Virginia Tech. He has been active in working with manufacturers and distributors in developing automation and training programs in fluid power. Dr. Ball currently serves as the graduate coordinator for the Master of Science in Technology program and teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses. Undergraduate courses include machining, fluid power, and automation. Graduate teaching responsibilities focus on the areas of Applied Research and DOE, Automation Systems, and Research in Manufacturing. He is actively involved in the activation of Western's Workforce Development Center and the Center for Integrated Technologies. |
