Professor, Engineering Technology

Professional interests include polymer processing, industrial training and development, international education, design of experiments. Dr. Cook enjoys working with non-traditional and co-op students, travel, kayaking, and other outdoor activities.

Prior to joining the faculty in 1975, Dr. Cook was a faculty member and department head at Lenoir Community College in eastern North Carolina. He previously worked in eastern Tennessee with Oak Ridge Associated Universities and Union Carbide Nuclear Division on the Oak Ridge Training and Technology Project. He has served as a career education planner for the East Tennessee Development District in Knoxville. Current teaching responsibilities include polymer processing, quality II/design of experiments, facilities management and maintenance, and technology systems/freshman seminar. Dr. Cook has many publications, the most recent, joint authorship of Chapter 2, Material Selection in the Tool and Manufacturing Engineers Handbook, volume 8, Plastic Part Manufacturing, published by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He has had extensive consulting experience with companies such as Westinghouse, Out Board Marine, Welch-Allen, Dayco, Steelcase and ARAMCO. Professional international activities include travel and work with the University of Swaziland and Swaziland College of Technology in southern Africa, Arabian American Oil Company in Saudi Arabia, and Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology in Ireland. He has been involved in several faculty, administrator and student exchanges with foreign institutions. Currently, the department has one student studying engineering in Ireland.
