Dr. Bradford L. Sims Construction Management Department Head Dr. Bradford L. Sims has either worked in or in support of the Construction Industry since receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue University's Building Construction Program in May of 1990. Dr. Sims is a Professor and the Construction Management Department Head in the Kimmel School of Construction Management & Technology at Western Carolina University. He is the founder of WCU's Construction Management undergraduate and online Master of Construction Management programs. Dr. Sims and Dr. Capano were also the faculty that attracted a $10.4 million endowment from Joe Kimmel in fall 2005. Prior to joining the leadership team at Western Carolina, Dr. Sims was on a leave of absence from the University of Florida's Building Construction Program working in The Netherlands for the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building Construction (CIB) as their Assistant Secretary General. There he was involved with organizations from all over the world and would travel to support over 50 commissions of experts performing research into all aspects of building and construction. Dr. Sims has been an Assistant Professor in the University of Florida's Building Construction program where he performed research into Lean Construction and worked closely with the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE), was an Educator-at-Large member of the Certified Professional Constructor's (CPC) National Commission, and a regional director for the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC). Before the University of Florida, he was both on the faculty and was a graduate student in Purdue University's Building Construction Program. There he worked on improving Construction Continuing Education Programs and created his website called ConstructionEducation.com that maintains a wealth of construction information. He has been a co-author or author of numerous refereed articles during his time at both universities. Dr. Sims
has also worked for three different construction companies. The last was
Cherne Contracting Corporation where he was involved in Industrial Construction
day-to-day field activities at the ARCO refinery in Southern California.
He also worked for Raytheon Engineers in Massachusetts where he focused
on the cost issues of ongoing global projects in Industrial Construction
and worked for Westinghouse Savannah River Site in South Carolina on waste
and environmental construction projects where he focused on scheduling
issues. He has also consulted on special issues such as Lean Construction
with Graycor Construction Corporation in Chicago, Illinois. |
