Assistant Professor, Engineering Technology Professional interests include machining processes, manufacturing and quality systems, lean manufacturing. Prior to his arrival at Western in 2004, Prof. Stone taught for two years in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Valparaiso University in northwest Indiana. His Ph.D. comes from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where his research focused on subsurface damage during the grinding of titanium aluminide. Dr. Stone earned his Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State, where he investigated noise and vibration in roller chain drives. His Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering comes from the University of Texas at Austin. For eight years between Penn State and Georgia Tech, he worked for General Electric at their Gas Turbines (Greenville, SC), Aircraft Engines (Evendale, OH), and Armament Systems (Burlington, VT) plants in roles ranging from supervision to 6-Sigma quality control.
